Nissan Safety Features

Top Nissan Safety Features

When choosing a new or previously owned vehicle, safety is always a primary consideration. Nissan cars, trucks and SUVs have a well-earned reputation as some of the safest vehicles on the road today. With a consistently high ranking by the NHTSA and IIHS federal and independent safety rating agencies, every new Nissan vehicle is protected by Nissan’s Intelligent Safety Shield Technology and the three-tier philosophy of Monitor, Respond, Protect. It’s this comprehensive approach to vehicle and passenger safety that has made Nissan vehicles such a popular choice among families here in Tennessee.

Here are some of the top safety features you can expect to find on many new Nissan vehicles. Keep in mind that some of these technologies aren’t available on every Nissan, but here at Nissan of Cookeville we can help you find the vehicle with the safety features that are most important to you.

Nissan Advanced Air Bag System

This advanced safety feature is standard on all Nissan models, and includes dual-stage supplemental air bags with seatbelt sensors and occupant classification sensors. That means the inflation rate of the dual-stage air bags adjusts to occupant weight, crash severity and seatbelt usage. This system also includes front seat-mounted side impact air bags and roof-mounted side curtain air bags for extra protection.

TPMS with Easy-Fill Tire Alert

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System monitors for under-inflated tires, and will notify you if the pressure in any tire is too low. When you stop to put air into your tires, the Easy-Fill Tire Alert system will sound a chirp of the horn indicating the tire is at the proper pressure.

Nissan Advanced Drive-Assist® Display

This display screen is placed directly between the tachometer and speedometer on many Nissan models, and provides information like turn-by-turn navigation, caller ID, safety warnings and more. The idea is to keep drivers’ eyes from having to search for information on a central screen, but rather to present it at a simple glance.

Nissan Safety Features

Predictive Forward Collision Warning

Using radar sensors mounted on the front of your Nissan, the Predictive Forward Collision Warning system constantly monitors not just the vehicle ahead of you, but the one in front of that. If it detects a sudden deceleration, it sends an audible alarm and an indicator appears on the instrument panel to warn you of a potential threat.

Forward Emergency Braking

Used in conjunction with the PFCW system, the Forward Emergency Braking system gives an audible and visual alarm when an object in front of you is approaching too quickly. It can also autonomously apply the brakes if you fail to respond to the threat. If a collision is unavoidable, it will engage the brakes to lessen the speed of impact and reduce the severity of a collision.

Blind Spot Warning

This safety feature will detect vehicles in your blind spot, and light an indicator on the Advanced Drive-Assist® Display. If you put your turn indicator on to change lanes, the indicator will flash and an alarm will sound warning you of the danger.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

When backing up, the Rear Cross Traffic Alert system can warn you of an obstruction or an approaching vehicle that might not be visible to you. This safety feature uses the vehicle’s rear radar sensors to detect vehicles approaching from either side.

Rearview Monitor

The rearview monitor feature lets you see what’s directly behind you when you’re backing up. The color gradient on the monitor lets you know how close you are to something using green, yellow and red indicator lines.

Around View® Monitor

Using four cameras mounted on the outside of the vehicle, the Around View® Monitor gives you a 360-degree view of your vehicle from above. It’s like a virtual birds-eye view, with a split-screen close-up view from any individual camera.

Intelligent Cruise Control

This advanced safety feature lets you set the speed you want to travel at, and then monitors traffic ahead. If it detects a slower vehicle in front, it will adjust to the slower speed. Intelligent Cruise Control can also use navigation information to detect approaching curves, and slow the vehicle to a safe speed to manage the turn.

Driver Attention Alert

The Driver Attention Alert system will warn drivers if it detects driving behavior consistent with drowsy driving. It uses steering wheel input sensors to monitor driving patterns that may indicate a driver is not as alert, and sounds a chime along with displaying the message, “Take a break?” This system uses logic to prevent false indications from lane changes and road conditions.
