If you’re planning a summer vacation, it probably didn’t take you too long to discover how expensive it will be. While you can typically find affordable accommodations, plane tickets – even if you’re not going too far away – can immediately be budget breakers. The good news, though, is that you don’t have to fly anywhere to have a fabulous trip this summer. Here are some places around Tennessee you can drive to:

The Lost Sea

The Lost Sea in Sweetwater is one of the biggest underground lakes in the world. When you take a tour, you’ll get to walk through a cave until you get to the Lost Sea, and from there you’ll get on a glass-bottom boat that will take you around the lake.

Sunsphere

Made famous (to people outside of the Knoxville area, anyway) by an episode of The Simpsons, the Sunsphere is one of the last remnants from the 1982 World’s Fair. You can take an elevator up to the observation deck on the 4th level that will give you a stunning 360-degree view of the Tennessee River, Smoky Mountains, and downtown Knoxville.

The Parthenon

You don’t have to go all the way over to Europe to get a taste of ancient culture. In Centennial Park near downtown Nashville, there’s a full-size replica of the Parthenon found in Athens, Greece. A magnificent sight on its own, the building is also an art museum.

Tina Turner Museum

Did you know that Brownsville’s Tina Turner has her own museum in her hometown? Not far from Memphis, this is a must-visit for Turner fans or those who just want to learn about an American icon. An added bonus: The Museum is in a building that used to be Turner’s elementary school.

Need a new ride to get you to all of these great places? Nissan of Cookeville has what you need to get there and back, including the Nissan Altima and Nissan Titan.
