If you have done a lot of driving in and around Nashville, almost certainly you’ve had to slam on your breaks or take evasive action. With more cars, bicyclists, and pedestrians out on the roads, this can it feel as though you’re driving in an obstacle course. At Nissan of Cookeville, we want everybody to be safe while driving, which is why we offer this list of common road hazards to be aware of:

Other Drivers

Let’s start with the obvious one. While you (of course) are a fine driver, the same can’t be said about everybody. Even though it’s now illegal to drive while holding a phone in Tennessee, we all know that people will still talk and text while they’re behind the wheel. This is why if you see someone using a phone while driving or otherwise being reckless, give them a lot of space.

Pedestrians

Drivers aren’t the only people who can be distracted. Many folks walk around – even in areas with a lot of traffic – staring at a device, and this puts them at risk for harm. And because accidents can be especially bad for pedestrians, drivers need to be extra cautious, even if they’re obeying the rules of the road.

Bicyclists

While bike lanes are becoming more common, there are still many streets that don’t have them. This is why drivers have to always be aware of bicyclists and try not to get too close to them. This is particularly important with school back in session because more kids are out riding their bikes.

Bad Weather

It won’t be long before the rainy season arrives, and wet pavement means slick roads and an increased chance of accidents. When it rains, always use your headlights, as it gives you more visibility. You should also drive a little slower and keep a greater distance between your car and the one in front.
